After years as a prosecutor in Gwinnett County, Amina Bakari-Green felt drawn to a different kind of legal work where she could help individuals and families proactively safeguard their future. She launched ABG Legal to guide clients through estate planning and probate with clarity and confidence.
From her offices in downtown Lawrenceville, she advises clients on everything from wills and revocable trusts to guardianship, conservatorship, Medicaid planning and elder law, what she calls “all the basics,” often for those who are navigating multiple family relationships at once. “I work with a variety of people, but tend to focus on the sandwich generation — adults who are caring for aging parents and their own children,” says Bakari-Green. “This group especially needs to be planning to protect those they love.”
What sets her firm apart is her personalized approach. Clients work directly with her at every step of the process.
“My clients have my cell number and can call me if they need help,” she says. “I’m the one designing your plan, walking you through it and sitting with you in court. I’m readily available and accessible to my clients.”
Making the Complex Manageable
Estate planning and probate can feel complex and stressful, but Bakari-Green enjoys simplifying the process so that clients can make informed decisions that create peace of mind for the future. “These areas can be overwhelming, and it’s easy for people to get stuck while trying to navigate them,” she says. “When I create a plan for clients and walk them through it, I can see the relief they feel even after our initial conversations.”
She often sees people delay estate planning, even though they know it’s important, assuming the process will be too time-consuming or burdensome. Instead, she reframes it as a guided discussion. “The process is really more of a conversation when you work with someone who knows the right questions to ask,” she explains. “I can think of possibilities you might not have considered and help you plan for them. It’s not as stressful as you might think.”
Purpose-Driven Growth
Now celebrating its third anniversary, ABG Legal has grown steadily, fueled by relationships and community engagement. For Bakari-Green, business development starts with showing up. “My business is based on networking, and it’s important for me to consistently get out and meet people and connect with them,” she says. “Even though it seems like I don’t have time for networking, it’s one step that we all have to do intentionally and consistently.”
She has found strong momentum through the Gwinnett Chamber, particularly within the Chairman’s Club.
“This group makes it easier to break into the Gwinnett market,” she says. “Each event gives you the chance to meet new people and continue building rapport.”
Beyond business growth, those connections have also shaped her perspective on community impact. She appreciates the close alignment between the business and nonprofit sectors in Gwinnett. “I’ve been amazed to see how cohesive the for-profit and nonprofit spheres are in Gwinnett,” she says. “As a business owner, you can easily find a nonprofit that can turn your growth into good.”
Bakari-Green is especially drawn to organizations that support single parents, children in need and individuals with special needs.
“I love getting to support organizations that help vulnerable groups find resources, have a voice and get back to stability,” she says. “Getting to make a personal connection with the people involved in these causes is gratifying to me.”
When she’s not building her firm and giving back in the community, Bakari-Green enjoys time with her 5-year-old daughter, whose boundless energy fills life with joy.
