February 6 turned out to be one of the busiest days of this year’s legislative session as hundreds of visitors representing dozens of organizations filled the halls of the State Capitol. Already a special day for many, this day was extra special for the Gwinnett Chamber as the 15-member business delegation paid a visit to thank our state leaders and lawmakers for their leadership and service during this year’s Day at the Capitol presented by Jackson EMC.
The Gwinnett Chamber delegation spent the day meeting with Georgia’s Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson, Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp, and Lt. Governor Burt Jones. Chamber members also heard from Ian Caraway, Governor Kemp’s Director of Policy, and Josh Stephens, Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the Georgia Department of Economic Development. State Representative Matt Reeves gave a tour of the Capitol and shared insights on how bills become laws. The Gwinnett Chamber was recognized on both the Senate and House floors by State Senator Nabilah Islam Parkes and State Representative Dewey McClain, respectively, as many members of Gwinnett’s legislative delegation joined in commemoration. Both lawmakers touted the chamber’s recent accomplishments, including the historic ‘Chamber of the Year’ designation by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) and its $5.4 million renovation of its facilities. HR 917 and SR 477 officially recognize February 6, 2024, as Gwinnett Chamber Day at the Capitol.
