The Gwinnett Chamber took 18 business professionals to meet with lawmakers and statewide leaders to discuss key issues impacting business during this year’s Gwinnett Chamber Day at the Capitol. Sponsored by Jackson EMC, the program fell on Legislative Day 7 of the 40-day session, where Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Michael P. Boggs gave the State of the Judiciary address in front of a joint session.

Improving the state’s legal climate is a top legislative priority for Governor Brian Kemp, Lt. Governor Burt Jones, and Speaker Jon Burns this year. The Gwinnett Chamber delegation had valuable discussions with Brad Bohannon, Governor Kemp’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner John King. Both officials shared the challenges businesses face with rising insurance costs and risks and their commitment to work with stakeholders toward a solution.

Members of the Gwinnett legislative delegation joined the group for lunch to conclude the half-day program, providing an opportunity to connect and build stronger relationships with lawmakers. State Representative Matt Reeves and State Senator Shawn Still sponsored HR 58 and SR 48 respectively, officially recognizing January 28 as Gwinnett Chamber Day at the Capitol.
