Gwinnett Voters Approve Renewal of Education SPLOST

On November 4, Gwinnett voters once again made a defining investment in the future—this time through the renewal of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST). The measure passed with 69.5% approval, reflecting strong community support for the one-cent sales tax that funds school capital projects across Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools.

More than 120,000 voters, or 20.6% of the county’s electorate, turned out for the Special Election. Their decision sets in motion a five-year, $1.4 billion capital plan that will fund major improvements to classrooms, safety systems, technology, transportation, and facilities.

This continuation ensures that the schools shaping Gwinnett’s next generation of workforce talent will remain well-equipped and secure. The plan includes upgrades to buildings, expanded facilities to accommodate growth, and investments in instructional materials, digital infrastructure, and modernized transportation fleets—all designed to support an ever-evolving learning environment.

The Gwinnett Chamber Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the renewal during its September meeting, reinforcing the organization’s long-standing partnership with the local education community. “The Gwinnett Chamber was proud to endorse the renewal of the E-SPLOST for Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools,” said Nick Masino, President & CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber. “Voters showed overwhelming confidence in the funding mechanism for critical capital investments that improve student safety, learning, and achievement.”

Since its inception in 1997, E-SPLOST has been a cornerstone of Gwinnett’s educational infrastructure. It has financed new school construction, technology advancements, and safety enhancements while addressing the maintenance needs of an aging system that serves more than 180,000 students countywide.

Each penny collected continues to shape the classrooms, campuses, and careers of tomorrow. By voting yes, residents reaffirmed a shared commitment to progress—one that keeps Gwinnett’s schools, and its economy, moving forward together.
