The Georgia General Assembly convened this week for legislative days 5 through 8. Both chambers passed the General Assembly calendar for the rest of the 2022 legislative session. Legislators will return to the Capitol next Tuesday for Legislative Day 9.

Buford City Schools officially appointed Melanie Reed as Superintendent on Monday, succeeding Dr. Robert Downs who announced retirement last November. Melanie Reed has been with Buford City Schools for 28 years, most recently serving as Deputy Superintendent. She was the sole finalist to replace Dr. Downs.

On Thursday, Mason Ailstock provided an update during the inaugural State of Rowen, highlighting the achievements over the past year as well as the work on the horizon. You can view a recording of the event here. This 2000-acre knowledge community will drive research in environment, agriculture, and medicine.

On Wednesday, the House voted on both bills to be moved back from the Governmental Affairs Committee to Intragovernmental Coordination and the motion did not pass 65-90. Neither bills have been scheduled to be reviewed in the GovAffairs Committee.
