Katrina Lucisano’s successful career is anchored in strong relationships based on integrity and effective communication. These relationships helped her build an independent mortgage brokerage that she led for 25 years and enabled a career transition to her current role as a mortgage broker for Silverton Mortgage— a Berkshire Hathaway company. Her focus on relationships now drives her to pour into the next generation of business leaders through the Gwinnett Young Professionals (GYP) organization.

GYP champions young, local professionals between the ages of 21 to 35 with programs and events to help them get connected and develop their personal and professional skillsets. Lucisano helps support this group as an event sponsor and a speaker, sharing valuable insights she has learned throughout her career. “I’m a big believer in the need for those of us who are more experienced to share our knowledge with younger people. With GYP, we have a group of young professionals who inspire each other to think outside the box and are eager to learn about different industries. I’m excited to be a resource for them,” she says.

Lucisano recently led a first-time homebuying seminar for GYP members, recognizing the pivotal role that homeownership plays in personal connection and financial growth. “Many of these professionals are at the point where they’re considering buying their first home. This is one of the most important, largest purchases you’re going to make, but there’s a lot to know about financial literacy, credit, and the intricacies of homebuying,” she says. “It’s wonderful to be able to educate them in this capacity.”

Beyond educating about the personal side of homebuying, Lucisano helps young professionals by giving them a glimpse into career options in the mortgage industry. “Our industry is aging a bit, and many young people aren’t aware of the professional opportunities here,” she says. “When people think of jobs in financial services, they usually think of investments or life insurance. People becoming lawyers often think of family, criminal or corporate law. But professionals in both fields can build strong careers related to real estate and mortgages while getting to help people in a significant way.”

Lucisano also coaches young professionals on the power of the relationships that can be built through the Gwinnett Chamber and specifically the Chairman’s Club. “I’ve made lifelong friendships here and built relationships that have helped me professionally and personally. It’s an incredible group where you can build a broad network,” she says. “I’ve been able to generate an entire homebuying partner list so that I can make the homebuying process more simple and seamless for my clients.”

Recognizing that it can be intimidating for young professionals or any new member to walk into the room and begin engaging with more established members, she has some advice. “I started out so afraid in this group of successful people. But you must come to events and engage and meet people,” she says. “Keep putting yourself out there and let people know how you can help them. The more you do so, the more comfortable you’ll get and the more you’ll see the relationships grow.”
